Synopsis

Ever since TV journalist Darcy Newhart was unwillingly made into a vampire she has been trying to adjust to her new existence.  She has found life in the vampire harem for the past four years rather dull, so when she has the opportunity to resume her career (with a vampire TV station rather than a human one) she leaps at the chance.

She has comes up with the great idea for a vampire reality TV show – a show where vampire ladies judge a selection of men to decide who is the sexiest – and get to vote the losers off the show.  Wanting to make it more exciting she secretly hires some human men to join the show.  Unfortunately for Darcy one of the men she hires is from the government’s secret vampire hunting unit and even worse, he is the one man she would vote for as the Sexiest Man on Earth….

The Review

This book is a vampire comedy romance.  I personally didn’t enjoy it as much I enjoyed Kerrelyn Sparks’ previous novel.  Yes, this is a light hearted romance novel and it’s not intended to be a work of great literature but I found the whole book superficial and somewhat disturbing.

The relationship between Darcy and Austin (the vampire hunter) is just so superficial, there didn’t seem to be any great romantic meeting of the minds (or bodies!) there.

The disturbing part of the novel comes from Darcy’s inability to accept herself as a vampire (and Austin’s inability to do so too) and her desire to change what she was.  It’s just my personal opinion but I think that you only get one shot at life, whether it’s a regular human one or a really long immortal existence, and a more positive message would be to love and accept yourself as you are and not beat yourself up because you are not exactly as you want to be.  If you really liked Kerrelyn’s previous book or you just love reading romance novels you will probably enjoy this book.   However, if you love vampires and all things vampiric approach this book with caution.
